get some vision in your life

February 3, 2009

urbanglass, which is both a teaching center and a studio in ft. greene for some pretty brilliant artists, holds a couple of different anual exhibitions. right now, the mfa exhibition 2009 is going on. it features the work of four emerging artists who are recent graduates of north american mfa glass programs. they’re inspirational and challenging. it’s some pretty amazing stuff.

while you’re there, check out the february course offerings, or the spring course offerings. one-time classes can cost as little as $50, and you can learn to make beads, paperweights, bowls, etc… or learn to work in the cold shop. for a more extended class, sign up for sessions that last for 3 or 4 hours a day, twice a week, for a few weeks.

the classes are some of the most fun i think i’ve ever had. it’s a truly amazing experience, learning to blow glass. molding something that is so intensely hot… it’s like nothing you’ve done before or since.

the gallery hours are: 10am-6pm tuesday to friday, and 10am-4pm saturday and sunday.

647 fulton st., 3rd floor. entrance at 57 rockwell place. for more information, go online.
